Okay, as of right now we have gotten permission to use the Little Falls Canal pathway and marina  to have the event, have been cleared for police/ambulance coverage for safety, and the Little Falls YMCA has been gracious enough to let us work through them so we can have insurance waiver coverage!!! Thank you to the above and also everyone else for their continued support!!

2nd Miles 4 Amyloidosis Awareness 5k Run and Walk

Yep! round two? are you ready? Our 2013 event is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 18th, 2013 in Little Falls, NY.  The route has been changed and will consist of much flatter terrain that last year's route.  This years route will also be more scenic as it will along the Erie Canal Path.  We also plan to gather  at the Little Falls Marina before/after.  Once I have more answers in place (end of Jan./ feb 2013) it will be posted. I am currently working on securing the insurance waiver, safety, sponsors, and everything else a race director does! Thank you everyone, always for your continued support! - keeping runnin' LB

What is Amyloidosis?

I strongly encourage you, (unless you have already done so) to please check out: amyloidosis.org

I have been so incredibly fortunate to work with and have so much support from so many people, co -workers, friends, near and far to be able to have had this run and walk take place last year for my dad; this is not only for him, as I know others who have also lost dear family members and friends to this terrible disease.  Together we can all raise awareness, in hope to someday find a cure or at least earlier detection and/ treatment methods.

Here is a quick explanation of Amyloidosis:

“Amyloidosis is a group of diseases in which one or more organ systems in the body accumulate deposits of abnormal proteins known as amyloid. The name “amyloidosis” was first used more than 150 years ago, but cases were described over 300 years ago. However, only within the past 25 years have physicians understood the specific make-up and structure of amyloid proteins. Although amyloidosis is not cancer, it is very serious. It is disabling or life threatening. However, growing awareness of the condition seems to be leading to substantial new research and treatment alternatives.” (taken from Amyloidosis.org)
